About the Artist

Shelley
Hamilton

Shelley Hamilton is a singer, actor, writer, and musician whose powerful “nouveau soul” voice has captivated audiences worldwide. A direct descendant of the historic Africville community in Nova Scotia with Jamaican Maroon and Métis roots, her work is a profound exploration of her heritage, seamlessly blending the raw emotion of Country and Blues with the sophisticated rhythms of Jazz.

From the stages of Dubai, Japan, and Germany to appearances on CBC and CTV, Shelley’s career is a testament to her versatility. She is a two-time African Nova Scotian Music Association (ANSMA) Artist of the Year, as well as a nominee for both the East Coast and Canadian Folk Music Awards.

As the producer and performer behind The Queens of Jazz — a celebrated show honouring the legendary women of jazz — Shelley brings the same curatorial vision and vocal mastery to The Sade Experience. Whether performing groundbreaking Country Reggae, paying tribute to musical icons, or having her original song “Connected” featured at the state funeral for Jack Layton and on the upcoming Telefilm Canada documentary film Joan’s Kitchen Table, Shelley Hamilton brings a lifetime of story, soul, and artistry to every performance.

“No one can do what Shelley Hamilton does. She’s a raw, natural talent! Shelley makes you feel as powerful and beautiful as each powerhouse performer she brings to life, with each incredible note she delivers.”
